📧 How to Migrate Your Emails Manually #
You can move your emails to a new account by exporting them from your old provider and importing them into the new one. This method works with Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, and most email clients.
Step 1: Export Emails from Your Old Account #
- Outlook (Windows/Mac)
- Go to File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Export to a file → Outlook Data File (.pst)
- Save the
.pstfile to your computer. - Thunderbird (Windows/Mac/Linux)
- Install the add-on ImportExportTools NG
- Right-click on the folder you want to export → ImportExportTools NG → Export folder
- Save as
.mboxfile. - Apple Mail (Mac)
- Select the mailbox you want to export
- Go to Mailbox → Export Mailbox…
- Choose a folder to save the exported file.
Step 2: Import into Your New Account #
- Outlook
- Go to File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import from another program or file → Outlook Data File (.pst)
- Select the file you exported earlier.
- Thunderbird
- Right-click on the new account inbox → ImportExportTools NG → Import mbox file
- Choose the exported file.
- Apple Mail
- Go to File → Import Mailboxes…
- Select the exported file and import.
Step 3: Sync with Your New Provider #
- If your new account uses IMAP, the imported emails will sync automatically to the server and appear in webmail and on all devices.
- If your account is POP3 only, the imported messages will stay in your email program, but you’ll still have them saved.
Tips for Large Mailboxes #
- Export and import by folder (Inbox, Sent, Archive).
- Split by year or date range if the mailbox is very large.
- Always verify after each import to make sure all emails appear.
